About Asphalt Calculation

How to Measure Your Project

For accurate calculations, measure your project area carefully:

  • Length and Width: Measure the longest and widest points of your project area in feet.
  • Thickness: For most residential driveways, 2-4 inches is common. For parking lots or higher traffic areas, 4-6 inches is recommended.

If your area is not a perfect rectangle, break it down into rectangular sections and calculate each separately.

Understanding the Results

Our calculator provides two main results:

  • Volume (cubic yards): The amount of asphalt needed for your project in cubic yards. This is a standard measurement used in construction.
  • Weight (tons): The weight of the asphalt needed. Asphalt is typically sold by weight, so this is what you'll use when ordering materials.

Remember that the actual amount needed may vary based on compaction, waste, and other job-specific factors.

This calculator provides estimates only and should not replace professional advice. Actual material requirements may vary based on specific site conditions, compaction factors, and installation methods.
